Holiday Sleep Tips
The holidays are a magical time filled with family gatherings, festive meals, and late-night celebrations. However, for parents, it can also bring challenges in maintaining their child’s sleep schedule. Here’s how to keep your child rested while enjoying the season:
1. Stick to a Routine (as Much as Possible)
Consistency is key when it comes to sleep. If your child usually goes to bed at 7:30 PM, try to keep it the same—even when you're traveling or visiting relatives. Bring familiar bedtime items like a favorite blanket, sound machine, or nightlight to create a home-like atmosphere. Get your free traveling sleep guide HERE!
2. Plan Around Naps
Schedule activities around your child’s regular nap times. If that’s not feasible, create opportunities for on-the-go naps in the car or stroller. Even short naps can help avoid overtiredness, which often leads to crankiness and difficulty falling asleep.
3. Manage Screen Time
Holiday movies and festive games can be exciting, but too much screen time close to bedtime can interfere with sleep. Dim screens and switch to calming activities at least an hour before bed.
4. Be Flexible Yet Realistic
While it’s okay to bend the rules for special occasions, try not to let every day turn into a late-night adventure. A sleep-deprived child may struggle to enjoy the season, and you’ll face a harder time resetting routines after the holidays.
